In the earlier times when these new diagnostic techniques ware not even perceived, physicians relied on natural methods to diagnose diseases. Diagnosing an ailment by examining the character of a tongue, reading pulse as per the guidelines laid down in the old ayurvedic texts of the Traditional Indian Medicine (TIM), and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TMC) texts could not only diagnose a disease but even its root. It even could predict the course of ailments the patient would suffer from in the future. The character of the patient's skin, complexion, behavoural pattern etc. were thoroughly studied to predict and diagnose diseases. Simple stool and urine examination also pointed to vital clues regarding the diseased state of the patient. The TMC used acupuncture 'Alarm points' which guided them to diagnose a disease efficiently.
